Comal County officials on Aug. 8 presented a recommended 2025 budget that totals $162,000,000 and recommended a tax rate equal to the county'9s no-new-revenue rate of 26.423 cents per $100 of valuation. The county judge said contingency lines will hold $5,200,000 in the General Fund and $2,500,000 in the Road & Bridge Fund to cover potential staffing or capital needs without immediately asking taxpayers to pay for vacant positions.
The judge told commissioners the budget includes pay-scale advancements for most employees and roughly $2.3 million in new positions, and that exempt pay scales were adjusted to comply with changes in the Fair Labor Standards Act. "We are budgeting 5,200,000 of contingency in the General Fund, and then $2,500,000 in the Road and Bridge Fund," the judge said. He described the recommended tax rate as equal to the no-new-revenue rate Ms. Hoyt provided: "26.423¢ per $100 valuation." The court voted to set public hearings on the proposed tax rate and on elected-official salaries at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, in the Commissioners Courtroom at 100 Main Plaza, New Braunfels.
