Plaquemines Port council approves $237,000 to repair Pointe-a-la-Hache ferry aprons

The ordinance appropriates $237,000 from the Port’s Unrestricted Fund Balance to the 2026 Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan for "repair and replacement of the aprons of the West and East Pointe a la Hache Ferry Landings." According to the motion record, the ordinance was adopted with YEAS recorded from Commissioners Tyronne Edwards, Chris Schulz, Stuart J. Guey, Ronnie Newsom, Carlton M. LaFrance, Sr., Mitch Jurisich and Mark Cognevich; there were no NAYS and Commissioners Brian Champagne and Patricia L. McCarty were absent.
Council members discussed the need to ensure the safety and efficiency of the ferry landing. The minutes note operational follow-ups in the status report portion of the meeting indicating one apron had been sandblasted and painted and the other was expected to be installed the following week. The ordinance directs Port employees and officials to carry out the purposes of the amendment "without further reading and approval by the Plaquemines Parish Council."
