Council OKs $25,000 state appropriation for Fort Jackson improvements

The Plaquemines Parish Council adopted Ordinance No. 26-109 on July 23 to accept and appropriate $25,000 in state funding for improvements to the historic Fort Jackson site. The money, appropriated through Louisiana House Bill 312, is designated for preservation, signage, exhibits, grounds maintenance, visitor services and related enhancements to improve public access.
Council Member Mark Cognevich offered the ordinance and the council approved it by roll call with YEAS recorded for Council Members Tyronne Edwards, Brian Champagne, Chris Schulz, Stuart J. Guey, Ronnie Newsom, Carlton M. LaFrance, Sr., Mitch Jurisich and Mark Cognevich; Patricia L. McCarty was absent. The ordinance amends the Five Year Capital Improvements Plan by appropriating $25,000 for the Improvements-Fort Jackson project (funding year 2026).
