Plaquemines Council approves partial settlements in multi-defendant oil and gas litigation

The resolution, added to the agenda by unanimous vote except for Council Member Patricia McCarty who was recorded absent, lists cases including The Parish of Plaquemines vs. ConocoPhillips Company (25th JDC No. 60-982), HHE Energy Company (No. 60-983), LLOG Exploration & Production Co., LLC (No. 60-985) and others through Total Petrochemicals & Refining U.S.A. Inc. (No. 60-002). The resolution specifies the settlements are partial and that the parish reserves claims against any non-settling defendants. The council adopted the resolution following an executive session held under La. R.S. 44:17(A)(2); Attorney Brandon Taylor was identified in the record as counsel associated with the litigation.
Council Member Mark Cognevich moved to add and adopt the resolution; the motion and subsequent roll-call adoption were recorded in the minutes. The resolution authorizes attorneys "to agree to the proposed partial settlements" and to sign and file court pleadings consistent with the settlements and directs the council secretary to release the resolution immediately for execution by parish officials.
