Historical society seeks city help to relocate artifacts before Sept. 1 deadline

Peter Glaser, representing the North Adams Historical Society, told the council the society92s large collection of artifacts must be removed from the All Saints Church basement by Sept. 1, roughly five weeks after the meeting, and that the society has been unable to find alternate dry, temperature-controlled space. He asked the city for help identifying a suitable storage site and noted the society lacks the resources to secure an adequate lease on its own.
"Most immediately, our large collection of invaluable artifacts must be removed from All Saints Church basement by September 1, 5 weeks from today," Glaser said, describing the request as urgent. He also said the city is one of the few in the area without a local history museum and asked council members to consider a task-force style response or other support to protect the collection and make the society eligible for grant funding.
