Mayor Jennifer A. Maxey presented a proclamation declaring July 2026 as National Disability Pride Month and highlighted Jenna Thompson, a North Adams athlete who competed in the 2026 Special Olympics. In remarks to the council, the mayor noted Thompson’s performance and community impact.
"Jenna participated in the 2026 Special Olympics, which brought nearly 3,000 athletes from across the country to celebrate the talents, determinations, and achievements of individuals with intellectual disabilities," Mayor Maxey said, and she recognized Jenna’s bronze medal in bowling and fourth-place finish in doubles. The mayor urged residents and institutions to promote inclusion and thanked the local commission on disabilities and event sponsors.
