The Sutton Select Board voted to require a "Certificate of Zoning Compliance" for any heated structure used as a residence built in town from the date of the meeting forward. The motion, made by Denis and seconded by Tim, passed during the Oct. 30, 2025 meeting and directs that certificates be forwarded to the Town Clerk's office.
Town Clerk/Treasurer Patti McClure raised the procedural issue, noting that her office and the listers were not receiving the certificates when people move into residences and cited Vermont State Statutes Title 24: Chapter 117 § 4449 in the discussion. The board acted to change its local processing so the clerk's office will receive certificates going forward.
No implementation timeline beyond "from today forward" was specified at the meeting; the board did not record a public comment period or a formal appeal process tied to this motion during the session.
