County reports $43M in FY2025 stormwater spending; public hearing on rate changes planned

Hillsborough County staff presented the 2026 stormwater rate study on April 15 and reported that the county spent $43,000,000 on stormwater projects in fiscal year 2025, including culverts, drainage work, watershed studies and pump stations.
Katie with Hillsborough County Communications said staff told commissioners that more funding will be needed to replace aging infrastructure and improve storm resiliency across the county, and that staff will continue to identify potential funding sources. The board will hold a public hearing this summer to discuss proposed stormwater rates for the coming year.
The study and the planned hearing signal the county's effort to prioritize stormwater infrastructure after a year of major spending; staff described the need as covering "hundreds of additional projects" that remain unfunded.
