Sperry accepts ballistic-armor donation, approves badge purchase and hires two police officers

During the May 8 meeting the Sperry Board of Trustees accepted a donation of three ballistic body armors to the Police Department from the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association. The acceptance motion was made by Melody Anderson, seconded by Patrick McCotter, and passed unanimously.
The board also approved purchasing nine uniform badges from MTM Recognition for $1,530.00 after a motion by Melody Anderson and a second by Gary Callahan. Later in the meeting, following executive-session discussions on personnel, trustees approved the employment of Jackie Marte and Jeremiah Mydland as police officers at $21.00 per hour, effective as soon as possible, each with a 90-day probationary period. No action was taken on the resignation of Officer Jacob Jez or on the employment status of Officer Jayna Johnson.
