SAFE Alliance CEO: SASHA will combine housing with counseling, legal aid and children’s services

Dr. Pierre Baraste, CEO of SAFE Alliance, told the audience that SAFE has provided more than 50 years of services and that housing is fundamental to survivors’ stability. He described the SASHA project as offering permanent and transitional supportive housing alongside secure spaces, counseling, legal support, peer support and children’s services.
"Housing is where stability begins," Baraste said, and he thanked the city of Austin and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for significant investment in the project. He also named private partners including DMA Development, Ford Craft Architecture and Bailey Elliot Construction, and credited survivor input for shaping the development.
Baraste said the $1,000,000 federal investment will strengthen supports across SAFE’s campus and emphasized that the project is meant to be part of a coordinated federal, state, county and nonprofit effort to create long-term safety for survivors.
