Rep. Greg Casar secures $1 million for SAFE Alliance’s SASHA supportive housing in Travis County

U.S. Rep. Greg Casar announced onstage that his office delivered $1,000,000 in federal funding to support the SASHA project on SAFE Alliance’s campus in Austin, saying the investment will help keep families in Travis County safe from domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness.
"I'm proud to deliver 1000000 dollars in federal funding to make sure that families in Austin are safe from domestic violence, ****** assault, and homelessness," Casar said, calling the project a response to seven to eight years of local planning and coordination. He described the development as 60 new homes that will serve nearly 250 survivors at a time.
Casar framed the grant as both a public-safety and housing intervention, saying supportive housing reduces emergency-system use and, in some instances cited at the event, has been associated with large reductions in arrests. He thanked local partners who will implement the funds and said federal dollars must be matched with county and city leadership to be effective.
Dr. Pierre Baraste, chief executive officer of SAFE Alliance, said the funding will help strengthen on-campus supports including counseling, legal services and children's programming. "Housing is where stability begins," Baraste told attendees.
The announcement was made during a public ceremony attended by Travis County officials, SAFE Alliance leaders and survivors; organizers presented a ceremonial check and invited follow-up conversations about implementation and timelines.
