County approves Maple Building garage rehab and equipment replacements

The Ways and Means Committee approved a $1.5 million supplemental appropriation for the Maple Building parking garage rehabilitation and a separate $150,000 appropriation for building equipment replacement on Feb. 24.
Deputy Commissioner Brian Titsworth said a 2025 structural assessment required temporary shoring of the Maple Building garage at 5 Washington Center; the funds will pay for engineering and repairs identified in that assessment. Mr. Titsworth noted the county owns the building (the former Key Bank) and that county offices and some educational programs occupy the space. Erik Denega said the equipment-replacement account is used annually for HVAC, boilers, sprinklers, elevators and pumps and named specific planned replacements at the Maple Building and the Middletown campus.
Both motions passed unanimously. Staff said more detailed engineering scope and construction timelines will follow the design phase.
