The Burlington Township Planning Commission discussed on Jan. 26 whether to pursue an ordinance addressing energy storage facilities after Chair Chad Blair said multiple neighboring townships had held public hearings and encountered “poor” public reception and a range of environmental and land‑use concerns. Commissioners agreed the topic requires research into sample ordinances and cost estimates before the commission or township board commits to drafting local rules.
Commissioner Jeremy Steele moved — with support from Mary Guthrie — that the commission present its concerns and options to the township board and ask how the board would like to proceed at the board’s Feb. 26 budget meeting; the motion carried. The commission did not adopt an ordinance at the Jan. 26 meeting and directed staff and commissioners to compile example ordinances and cost information for future discussion.
