Residents press Potter County to resolve unsafe mailbox cluster on Straw Man Trail

Residents of the Straw Man Trail area told the court the current mailbox arrangement is a safety and access problem that has produced near-accidents and blocks traffic. Levi Randall described the arrangement and its hazards: “There are currently 27 mailboxes on the North Side Of Ombre and 29 on the other side,” he said, and told the court that the USPS lists the deliveries as curbside at residents' homes even though boxes are clustered in one location.
County staff and commissioners discussed options: the postmaster indicated USPS could provide cluster boxes but expects concrete pads to be provided by residents; county staff said the court could consider funding pads as a public benefit because the improvement relieves roadway congestion and a traffic hazard. The judge and county attorney agreed to work with the postmaster and return with proposals; the court instructed staff to draft a mailbox policy or subdivision specification requiring cluster box placement for future development and to explore whether the county should fund concrete pads in this existing right-of-way.
