Board weighs pool, PA systems and gym priorities; Prop 2 assistance available but bond tabled

During its March 9 meeting the Calipatria Unified School District Board of Trustees discussed multiple facility improvement needs, including proposals for a swimming pool, campus PA systems and sidewalk repairs.
Mr. Sanders briefed trustees on the availability of Proposition 2 (School Facility Program) funds and said technical assistance from CFW could support an application. Trustee Raul Navarro recommended that, if the district pursues Prop 2, the application consider a gym for Bill E. Young Jr. Middle School; President Michael Fong asked that staff obtain separate cost quotes for each site. The minutes record: "Mr. Sanders was present at the meeting to share some news about the Prop 2 (School Facility Program) funds that can help pay for some of these large projects. CFW can help complete our application. Trustee Navarro requests if we go this route he's suggesting a GYM for BYMS."
Separately, the board discussed but did not adopt a new bond program at this time; trustees said they lacked sufficient information and voted unanimously to table the item. Staff were asked to return with more detailed cost estimates and timelines before any bond or election decision.
