Board backs village survey but limits it to 20 questions

The Village of Harrison board agreed to move forward with a community survey to gather resident input on operational issues, economic development, housing and village services, but directed staff to shorten and refine the question set.
Staff proposed releasing the survey Oct. 1 with a November 15 deadline and distributing postcards to every household, offering paper copies at Village Hall and computer access at polling locations. Trustee Baldwin and others raised wording and length concerns; trustees and staff discussed focusing the instrument and possibly engaging a survey professional to improve question design. After discussion an amendment limiting the survey to a maximum of 20 questions and asking staff to refine wording and length passed unanimously.
Staff said the last survey received about 700 responses and that the village will use multiple outreach channels to encourage participation. Trustees suggested focusing on a few priority topics to increase completion rates and to ensure the survey produces meaningful, actionable results.
