Zoning Chair Andrea Moore told the board the zoning board took residents' concerns into account and added an appearance section to the ordinance. Resident Bill Roesch had said he had been "informed by previous Village Councils that storage units were not permitted" and worried allowing them would be a step backward. Trustee Courtney Schmideler moved to approve the ordinance; Trustee Todd Lawson seconded and the measure passed on a roll-call vote with Trustees Branson, Cohen, Lawson, Schmideler and Stark voting aye.
The ordinance sets standards intended to govern placement and appearance and includes provisions for inspections and enforcement. Trustee Christina Stark and Trustee Billy Cohen said they were initially concerned but supported the ordinance after reviewing the text. The board did not specify an effective date in the meeting minutes; implementation details will follow through the zoning administrator (the mayor) and the clerk's office.
The zoning board's recommendation, the resident comments, and the board's approval close a local policy gap the village has debated during recent months. The village clerk's office will keep the ordinance on public record and answer questions about permit submittals and enforcement procedures.
