Special education update: co-teaching refresh, facilitated IEPs and parent partnership meeting set for Oct. 15

Dean Pappas briefed the board on Special Education initiatives, reporting that a co-teaching refresh has begun in both buildings with monthly collaborative book-study meetings, administrative walk-throughs and coaching support through West 40. He said facilitated IEPs "show promise for more engaging, collaborative and conversational meetings with parents" and announced a Special Education Parent Partnership meeting on Oct. 15 at S.E. Gross to explain the new facilitated IEP model.
Pappas also noted early-childhood programming highlights: a successful Parent Participation day, addition of music therapy by a licensed music therapist, and a sensory swing expected for delivery in early winter. He reported that ELL fall screening is complete and that ELL services (push-in, co-teaching and pull-out intervention) are underway.
