Fenton reports strong turnout for Future Freshman Night; outlines ACCESS and ACT testing schedule

District administration told the board that approximately 160 families—about two‑thirds of the incoming Class of 2030—attended Future Freshman Night on Jan. 15. Activities included a principal welcome, student performances, an electives fair, building tours led by Link Crew, and an activities and athletics fair where students signed up for opportunities.
Administration said ACCESS testing for multilingual learners will take place on Feb. 5, with juniors taking the ACT on April 14 and freshmen/sophomores taking PreACT/PreACT Secure on April 15 following Illinois' transition to the ACT. To maximize instructional value for non‑testing students, the district will deploy its "Future Ready Fenton Day" model—career visits, college visits, and other structured activities—so testing windows are smaller and additional support is available for testers.
The district described the Future Ready Fenton Day model as complex to implement but well received and shared as a best practice with other districts; counselors continue registration efforts at feeder schools and staff distributed a new informational booklet to support incoming families.
