At the March 11 public hearing, district leadership told the Board of Education that the recommended RIF interacts with a wave of planned personnel departures. The minutes record 15 teacher resignations for 2026–27 and 17 teachers retiring at the end of the year; district staff said some of the teachers recommended for RIF do not hold the certifications the district needs for next year.
Despite overall reductions, the district said it will hire nine new positions for the coming year. Dr. Calderin identified a school psychologist and bilingual junior high teachers among the positions the district expects to fill, indicating the district is reallocating resources to meet current needs even as it reduces head count in other areas.
