Special education leaders report parent partnership meeting and rollout of Read & Write support

Dean of Special Education Dean Pappas and Katie Johns reported that the district's first Special Education Parent Partnership meeting on Oct. 15 drew about 30 families and focused on the new Facilitated IEP model, which parents said helped them feel better prepared for upcoming IEP meetings. The presentation and parent feedback were designed to increase partnership and parental readiness ahead of scheduled IEPs.
The student services report also highlighted the district's use of Google Read & Write on Chromebooks as an instructional tool that provides text-to-speech, speech-to-text, translation and editing supports; district Special Education and ELL teachers have been trained in the tool, which staff said is being actively used to support student access to literacy content.
