D95 reports special-education parent partnership turnout and AAC training

Dean Pappas described special-education services and reported that the second Special Education Parent Partnership meeting on Jan. 6 drew participation from 35 families and focused on preparing for transition Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings between schools.
District staff thanked Kortney Banks for leading a staff in-service on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to support students who use different communication modes. The district also scheduled a Parent Café for March 11 to connect with early-childhood families about developmental milestones and resilience. Ashley Garcia and Janet Ehlert were credited with organizing ELL ACCESS testing logistics; preliminary data are expected by the end of the school year, with official ACCESS scores arriving over the summer.
