Stacey Steiner presented the district's Democracy School work to the Carlinville CUSD 1 Board of Education, saying, "In 2017 we started this program at the High School level," and that last year the district began the process to become a Democracy School district. She described a four‑value framework — civic knowledge, civic skills, communication and respect, empathy and fairness — and said teams of students across grade levels helped develop lessons that span elementary through high school.
Dr. Becky Schuchman thanked Steiner and noted the district's progress toward designation, saying the Veterans Day lesson sequence (elementary through high school) demonstrates how the framework is applied across grade bands. The board did not take action on the presentation; the spotlight was informational and intended to show curricular alignment with civic standards and to encourage continued student engagement in civic participation.
