District instructional leaders updated the board on enrollment, testing and programs at the April 20 meeting. Director of Special Services Dr. Angle Diggs reported enrollments of 421 students at Barack Obama and 408 at Jesse White, and noted 68 special education students are placed out of district. Director of Teaching and Learning Dr. Antoinette Gray said state testing is complete and highlighted a 54% decrease in discipline incidents.
Dr. Gray outlined programming priorities including recognition for young authors, professional learning communities, summer enrichment planning, a culture and climate survey and upcoming end-of-year celebrations. The directors also cited extracurricular achievements: Principal Ms. James noted students from both campuses representing HCSD 152½ at the South Cook Math Bowl and Principal Mr. Jones said BOLA's band received a #2 rating at the IGSMA competition.
