Department officials described an outreach element to the canine program: beyond searches and investigations, the teams will perform education and public-relations work to inform communities about technology-related risks and supervision expectations.
Handler Josh Paxman said Glitch is trained as a service animal and enjoys interacting with people, but he asked members of the public to wait until the dog is off-duty before approaching. "She is trained as a service animal... Any any police k 9, make sure you ask the the the officer, hey. Can I pet your dog?" Paxman said, adding that interaction is welcome after work. Officials highlighted outreach as one of the program's positive community-facing benefits.
