Josh Paxman, the department’s new AP&P agent and handler, described meeting Glitch in Indiana on June 1 and attending a two-week handler training after Jordan Detection imprinted the dogs with the target odor. "We started training that 1st day," Paxman said, explaining that much of the time was spent teaching handlers to read canine behavior and run search protocols.
Paxman explained the dogs are trained on a chemical signature used on electronic components. "So it's it's actually a chemical. They call it TPPO," he said, adding that the chemical is commonly applied to solder and can be found on storage-capable digital media. Because electronics are ubiquitous, Paxman said trainers emphasize a pre-search ritual so the dog recognizes when it is "work mode" rather than picking up background electronic odors in everyday settings.
Officials said the training covered how to reset the dog between passes, direct the dog to specific areas, and manage distractions such as other household animals or food. Jordan Detection performed the kennel imprinting while Defenders of Children coordinated the donation and training schedule.
