Board hears progress on $26 million Brian Dominick Early Childhood Center; bids, demolition and schedule discussed

Marc Rogers of CCS International presented capital planning and construction updates on Jan. 14, telling the Board that bid packages for the Brian Dominick Early Childhood Center were due and opened on Jan. 8 and are under review, with a bid award planned for the February meeting and construction tentatively scheduled to start in March 2026.
Rogers said abatement and demolition work is ongoing and that one excavation bid was received and will be rebid. He said the project is progressing “under the 26 million budget,” and staff are working on dust control and permits. Trustees asked that neighbors be given advanced notice when alleys or residential access are restricted; Rogers agreed to improve notice procedures.
Other updates included completed elevator modernizations at two schools, ongoing service center modernization, a concept selection for the West 23rd parcel parking lot with geotechnical studies complete, and ongoing HVAC and fire‑damage remediation at other sites.
