Sherlock School presents attendance gains as district average holds at about 92%

Superintendent Dr. Calderin said the district’s average daily attendance for the day is 92.1%, compared with 92.7% last year, and praised Sherlock’s approach. The presentation noted a low number of truant students and emphasized coordinated outreach and incentives to keep students in class.
School leaders described Student Council participation as a driver of the initiative and showed a PowerPoint on classroom and schoolwide strategies. The district will continue monitoring attendance and said schools are using data from midyear assessments (mClass, NWEA MAP, i‑Ready) to target interventions.
Board response: President Tomschin and other trustees thanked Sherlock staff for the presentation and recognized the role of families and teachers in supporting attendance improvements. The administration did not propose a districtwide mandate at the meeting; follow‑up steps were limited to continued monitoring and local school initiatives.
