Principal Jill Miller of Cicero East School told the Board of Education that when she experienced a medical emergency last year her staff "came together" to support her and her family. She presented a video of students and posters created by pupils that showcased pride in math, reading and writing and emphasized mutual support.
Superintendent Dr. Calderin introduced Miller and said her name "always comes up" in conversations about leadership and staff expectations, and that the district's response during her emergency reflected the character of the community. Miller said when you call on a "wolf," you are calling on the "wolf pack," and the board thanked her for her work overseeing staff who support students in difficult circumstances.
The recognition was presented at the start of the Oct. 8 regular meeting, along with assurances that the board and administration will continue to support school staff and student learning goals.
