Smith provided the monthly list of observances—September Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month; October Disability Employment Awareness, Italian, German and Polish-American Month; November Native American Heritage Month; December Human Rights; January Family Heritage/Lunar New Year; February African American History Month; March Women's History and Irish-American Heritage Month; April Deaf History Month; and May Asian American and Pacific Islander, Jewish American and Older Americans Heritage Month. She said junior-high lessons were recently updated and elementary-level materials will be reviewed next.
