Komarek board approves participation in state School Maintenance Grant; lists planned projects

The Komarek SD 94 Board of Education voted Nov. 11 to approve the district's participation in the Illinois State Board of Education School Maintenance Grant program for fiscal year 2026, which provides awards up to $50,000 and requires local matching funds.
"This is a $50,000 matching grant provided by the Illinois State Board of Education," board member Suzy Stevens said as she described the district's planned uses: new doors in the boiler room, small gym storage room and internal classrooms; replacement of the auditorium floor with luxury vinyl tile; rooftop drain repairs on the renovated building; replacement of the rooftop fence above the district office; tuckpointing parts of the renovated building; maintenance and upgrades to the secondary gym sound system; and bleacher maintenance. Stevens said Mr. Lopez will schedule the work after grant approval.
The motion to participate was made by President Chris Waas, seconded by Holly Neumann and carried on a 6–0 roll call vote (Willie Merrill absent).
