Komarek SD 94 previews tentative 2025 tax levy, projects modest increase

The Komarek School District 94 Board of Education on Nov. 11 reviewed a tentative 2025 property tax levy that would increase the district's capped levy by 3.99 percent, within limits set by the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law (PTEL).
"The school district is proposing a 3.99% increase in its aggregate tax levy, which is within the state limit of the inflation rate or maximum of 5% under the Property Tax Limitation Law (PTEL)," Business Coordinator Mike Pustelnik told the board. He said that three variables determine levy changes each year: the Consumer Price Index (CPI, 2.9% for Levy 2025), estimated revenue from new property ($54,818 for the 2024 levy), and the district's debt schedule.
Pustelnik said the 3.99% proposal would raise Total Capped Funds from an estimated $6,160,952 in 2024 to $6,406,505 in 2025 (a difference of $245,553). He added that the expected final increase, using the 2.9% CPI plus new construction, is projected at 2.91%, producing a Total Capped Funds figure of $6,339,927. The district's Operational Fund Balance was reported as $1,847,629 as of June 30, 2025, roughly 21% of the district's three-year average of operating expenses ($8,799,953).
The board placed the tentative levy on display; a public hearing and final adoption are scheduled for the board's Dec. 9 meeting, and the filing deadline is Dec. 30, 2025. The board did not take a final levy vote on Nov. 11.
