Dupo board expels Student #287600494 for two years; enrollment in ROE alternative school allowed

The Dupo Community Unit School District No. 196 Board of Education voted unanimously Oct. 9, 2025, to expel Student #287600494 for two years, from October 9, 2025, through and including October 8, 2027. President Stoll moved the expulsion; Member Carroll seconded, and the motion passed 4–0 with Members Carroll, Miller, Mushaney and Stoll voting yes and Members Agnew-Bennett, DeClue and Stumpf recorded absent.
The board’s motion states the expulsion is based on the board’s determination that the student “engaged in egregious conduct and that the student’s continued presence at school poses a threat to school safety of other students and staff and substantially disrupts the operation of the school.” The board also resolved to hold the expulsion in abeyance and permit the student to enroll in the Regional Office of Education (ROE) Alternative School; if the student fails to enroll or is denied enrollment or removed from the ROE program, the student will be ineligible to enroll in the district or another public-school district until the expulsion period is served. The motion further prohibits the student from attending or being present at any Dupo Community Unit School District events or property without prior written permission of the Superintendent.
The action followed an executive session called to consider student discipline. The board did not record any dissenting votes on the expulsion motion.
