Board highlights student performances and community speakers at Feb. 11 meeting

At the Feb. 11 Cicero School District 99 meeting, the board set aside time to recognize student accomplishments and to hear members of the public.
Administrators and the board recognized participants in the school musical Finding Nemo, Jr., and the district’s 2025–26 Special Olympics basketball team state qualifiers; certificates were presented by President Tomschin and Superintendent Aldo Calderin. Band teacher Joshua Lopez introduced student performers who played selected ensembles during the meeting.
During audience comments, Sarah (a physical therapist and coach) thanked the board for West Suburban Special Recreation Association support; Marissa McDonald (a 6th‑grade teacher) described a Mathletes competition and thanked organizers; Jessica Mieczkowski (Goodwin teacher) urged collaboration on contract negotiations and workplace dialogue; and Valerie Radcliffe (5th‑grade Dual Language teacher at Cicero East) praised staff supports and noted Operation Warm’s donation of coats and hats to students.
