Consultants present first districtwide special-education review; board hears related strategic-plan updates

Paul Nijensohn of Proficio Consulting Group and district staff presented the district’s first formal, cross-building review of special education, conducted August through November 2025. The review included school tours, classroom observations, data analysis (including EE-code distributions and caseloads), and interviews with more than 25 special-education staff (teachers, related service providers, case managers and administrators). The presenters said the review’s findings highlighted a student-centered culture, building-level collaboration, existing specialized programs, and well-resourced schools, while also identifying opportunities for growth to better align services with the district’s Strategic Plan.

Board members then received Year One implementation updates on Strategic Plan Goal #2 (Unified Positive Environment) focused on social-emotional learning, consistent expectations and inclusive climate, and Goal #4 (Community and Partnership) focused on family engagement and culturally responsive communication. Presenters framed Goal #4 work as critical to expanding opportunities and building trust between families and schools.

The presentations were informational; the minutes attach the consultants’ findings and note these materials support Strategic Plan goals and future board discussion about program adjustments and resource alignment.
