President Chris Waas moved and Melissa Obrock seconded the motion to approve the staffing plan and the board recorded a roll call vote of Yes — Arango, Merrill, Neumann, Obrock, Waas, Stevens, Will (7–0). In related action the board approved the resolution authorizing the honorable dismissal of Victoria Alvarado, a first‑grade teacher, effective at the close of the 2025–26 school term.
Superintendent Dr. Todd Fitzgerald told the board the district will increase the speech pathologist position from "0.9 to a 1.0 Full‑Time position" and stop contracting the service through LADSE; he said hiring the position directly will save the district money. Dr. Fitzgerald also reported two staff resignations: Alyssa Grundke, social worker, and Patricia Salgado, paraprofessional, both effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year.
Board members framed the RIF as an enrollment-driven personnel change: the administration said first grade will be reduced from three sections to two because there are currently 36 kindergarten students this year, and the reduction led to the personnel action.
The board moved to executive session at 7:23 P.M. to discuss personnel and student issues and returned to open session at 8:10 P.M.
What happens next: the district will present the new hires and specific contract terms for approval at a subsequent meeting (the board packet included the final draft staffing plan and Dr. Fitzgerald said the board will be asked to approve the STEM teacher hire in April).
