The Komarek School District 94 Board of Education voted unanimously Oct. 14 to hire Andrew Lopez as the district's Building Maintenance Supervisor for the 2025-26 school year.
President Chris Waas moved the hiring motion, which was seconded by Monica Arango and approved by a 7-0 roll call vote. The motion sets Lopez's annual salary at $75,000 plus benefits. The minutes note Lopez began working last week and partnered with custodian Luis Gonzalez to ensure a smooth transition.
Board member Suzy Stevens, reporting for Building and Grounds, told the board that Lopez has already begun site work and that Dr. Todd Fitzgerald and Lopez are considering a set of priority projects. The district plans to seek a $50,000 School Maintenance matching grant and identified likely uses such as door replacement across buildings, repair of rooftop drains on the renovated west building, replacement of the rooftop fence above the district office, and tuckpointing of other sections of the renovated west school.
"Andrew was able to start last week and work with Luis Gonzalez to ensure a smooth transition for this important position," the minutes say.
The personnel action was one of several motions approved without dissent at the meeting. The hiring motion was recorded as: "TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF MR. ANDREW LOPEZ AS THE KOMAREK SCHOOL BUILDING MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR. HE WILL BE PAID AN ANNUAL SALARY OF $75,000 PLUS BENEFITS."
