District staff presented a proposed civics learning initiative at the Oct. 8 meeting aimed at recognizing student civic volunteerism and safety-related community work. Jason Taylor and Mrs. Mileto outlined the program goals and described the proposed Randy Okrzesik Civics Learning and Merit Award, intended to be a graduation achievement recognition for participating students.
The board approved Action Memorandum FY26-#14, the resolution to support creation of the Randy Okrzesik Civic Excellence Award. The motion (moved by President James Barthel and seconded by Secretary Casey Amayun) carried unanimously. The Teaching & Learning office was assigned to develop award criteria and a timeline for implementation and will report back to the board.
