Social Studies department highlights civic projects, Close Up DC trip and local-history initiatives

She noted the Close Up trip to Washington, D.C., has involved students for more than 40 years and distributed a handout with QR codes that document community engagement projects — including local-history study of figures such as Nance Legins-Costley and student artwork that will be used as a historical marker related to the Underground Railroad.
Ramlo summarized the department mission as "Empowering students to become informed, compassionate, and active citizens of the world." Board members thanked the department for its community connections and continuity of staff collaboration.
