District 112 reports expected winter MAP growth, reiterates 6-point ELA proficiency goal

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Michael Rodrigo told the Board that District 112 students showed "statistically expected growth" in the Winter MAP assessment but that new state baselines for 2025 limit direct year-to-year comparisons. Rodrigo said the district's Wildly Important Goal seeks a 6 percentage-point increase in students meeting or exceeding English Language Arts proficiency on the IAR, from 74% to 80% by the 2026-2027 school year.
Rodrigo described district steps to reach the WIG: a partnership with The Chicago Literacy Group to provide professional development for teachers and principals, increased instructional coaching under the Student-Centered Coaching model, and targeted literacy work in grade-level and staff meetings. He noted that winter MAP is a helpful snapshot but recommended presenting IAR results each November and reporting fall-to-spring MAP growth in June to provide a clearer picture of student progress. Principals Jamie Kahn and Will Kaplan joined Rodrigo for the update and discussed grade-level variations, including slight dips at some middle and elementary grades that the administration attributed to the winter plateau and a short instructional window since the fall MAP.
