Mount Vernon SD 80 approves hires, transfers and resignations for 2026

After returning from closed session, President Kent Jackson presided as the board approved a package of personnel actions.
Motion by Matt Flanigan, seconded by Jaymie Nunnery, approved Certified Personnel Hires including Olivia Wernecke as math teacher at Zadok Casey Middle School for the 2026–2027 school year at B Step 6 on the certified salary schedule. The roll call showed Ayes: Flanigan, Nunnery, Burge, Blok, Reynolds and Jackson; Nays: none; Absent: Daniels.
The board then approved classified hires by motion of Brian Blok, seconded by Matt Flanigan. Approved classified hires included Janiah Henderson as regular education paraprofessional at J.L. Buford (Step 6 on the 2025–2026 paraprofessional salary schedule) and Terry Knowles as Technology Coordinator at Mount Vernon City Schools at Step 7 on the 2025–2026 Technology Coordinator salary schedule. The motions carried on unanimous roll call votes.
Separately, the board approved personnel transfers (motion by Matt Reynolds, seconded by Brian Blok) moving Tylar Hubbard to 1st grade, Kaylea Sledge to 3rd grade and Jessica Wallis to special education at Dr. Nick Osborne Primary Center for the 2026–2027 school year. The board also accepted resignations (motion by Brian Blok, seconded by Matt Reynolds) including Leslie Smith's resignation as assistant principal at Zadok Casey Middle School effective June 30, 2026, and Allison Simmons' resignation as regular education paraprofessional effective Jan. 16, 2026.
All personnel motions were recorded by roll call and carried with no recorded dissents; Sierra Daniels was marked absent for votes.
