Board approves multiple hires, transfers, a resignation and a retirement

At its Dec. 11 meeting the Mount Vernon board approved certified and classified hires for 2026–27 and 2025–26, several internal transfers, accepted a resignation effective Dec. 19, 2025, and accepted John Burkett's retirement effective end of 2029–2030 school year.
The board approved several personnel actions after returning from closed session. Certified hires approved for the 2026–2027 school year include Adrienne Lyday as Assistant Principal at Zadok Casey Middle School and Katelin Krause as a Special Education teacher at Dr. Nick Osborne Primary Center; the motion was made by Matt Flanigan and seconded by Sierra Daniels.
Classified hires approved for 2025–2026 include Ryan Gilcrest as a Special Education paraprofessional at J.L. Buford and Jamie Watson as a cook helper at the central kitchen. The board also approved transfers for Carrie Huggins, Douglas Jones and Katie Baumhoegger. The board accepted the resignation of Shatarra Pelton effective Dec. 19, 2025 and accepted the retirement of John Burkett effective at the end of the 2029–2030 school year.
