Mount Vernon SD 80 raises substitute pay to $150 per day

Assistant Superintendent Mary McGreer briefed the board on substitute pay at the Aug. 14 meeting, saying the district's current daily rate for substitute teachers was $115 and that comparable districts pay between $110 and $200 per day.
After discussion, the board approved raising the daily rate to $150 and approved a one-time longevity bonus of $200 to be paid to substitute teachers and substitute aides after 90 full days of substituting in the district. Sierra Daniels moved the salary change; Chad Brandon seconded. The motion passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
Board members discussed recruitment and retention pressures in the region and noted the increase is intended to improve availability of substitutes for the coming year.
