Mount Vernon SD 80 board approves consent agenda, reaffirms hazardous bus routes

The Mount Vernon City Schools, District 80 Board of Education unanimously approved its consent agenda Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, a package that included approval of minutes, bills, the treasurer's report, the district bullying policy and the annual resolution to identify hazardous bus routes.
President Kent Jackson and the board voted to forward the board's hazardous-route determinations for the Primary Center, J.L. Buford Intermediate Education Center and Zadok Casey Middle School to the Illinois Department of Transportation, as required under the Illinois School Code, Chapter 122, 29-3. Board member Sierra Daniels moved approval; Matt Flanigan seconded. Roll call: Daniels, Flanigan, Nunnery, Brandon, Blok and Jackson — ayes; nays — none.
The motion will allow the district to maintain the same process used in prior years for identifying routes that present a ‘‘serious safety hazard’’ and to seek IDOT review per the statute. The board did not alter any bus routes at the meeting; the resolution documents the board's determination and initiates the formal review process.
The consent agenda vote was routine and took place at the meeting held at the District Office, 2710 North Street. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2025.
