Superintendent reports strategic planning start, Horizon School re-designation, WDLA application timeline and $35,000 ISEP grant

Superintendent Dr. Griffin told the board that a district strategic planning process is underway, Stevenson Middle School was re‑designated as an Illinois Horizon School to Watch, the WDLA application window closed Feb. 27 with notifications planned by April 3, and the district received an ISEP 4905 grant of nearly $35,000 to support immigrant students.
Superintendent Dr. Griffin updated the board on several district initiatives at the March 12 meeting. He said the district's strategic planning process has begun, with parent input collected during the Parent Advisory Committee meeting on March 10 and to be analyzed and shared with the Board.
Dr. Griffin told the board that Stevenson Middle School was re‑designated as an Illinois Horizon School to Watch and that a celebratory event is planned for this summer in Washington, D.C. He also reported that the Washington Dual Language Academy application period closed Feb. 27 and that accepted families will be notified by April 3. The district received approval for an ISEP 4905 grant of nearly $35,000 intended to support immigrant student education.
Dr. Griffin noted the district hosted its first National Junior Honor Society ceremony at Irving Middle School and said the district currently has NJHS chapters at Irving and WDLA and plans to establish one at Stevenson Middle School.
