Director Eric Crump briefed the commission on recent Board of County Commissioners actions affecting parks. The board also approved a license agreement with MAS Golf for Sierra Sage Golf Course structured as a 15‑year initial term plus a 10‑year extension; the operator agreed to near‑term capital replenishment payments of roughly $16,000 per month over the contract term to support about $3 million in improvements.
Crump reported the county accepted a $300,000 annual donation from the Wilbur May Foundation to support the Wilbur D. May Museum and Arboretum and that a bid award for the next phase of South Valleys Regional Park was pulled for additional analysis and will return to the board in August. The department also accepted a $100,000 Recreation Trails Program grant for trail improvements at Rancho San Rafael. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about acreage in the South Valleys buildout and project phasing; Crump said phase two will move development to roughly 30% completion of the overall master plan and add fields, parking and an entrance to South Virginia.
