Dr. Angle Diggs, the district Director of Special Services, told the board the district's current enrollment is 897 students: 423 at Barack Obama, 399 at Jesse White Learning Academy (JWLA) and 75 out-of-district placements. He said the Special Services office is coordinating registration and placement for students with IEPs.
Diggs said the department is working with Human Resources to recruit for two special-education openings — a Jesse White self-contained position for grades 2–4 and a resource position for Pre-K–2 — and will support interim coverage until hires are made. Those openings were presented as part of the Director's December report.
