Rankin CSD 98 finance committee discusses staggered wage adjustments after minimum‑wage timeline
Summary
District staff told the finance committee that the district completed a minimum‑wage timeline Jan. 1, 2025, which left some support‑staff wages unchanged as of July 1, 2025 because of a 6% cap measured over a rolling 12‑month period; the board has discussed a phased adjustment starting Jan. 1, 2026.

At its Dec. 15, 2025, Finance Committee meeting, Dr. Gordon briefed members on the district’s completion of the minimum‑wage timeline and how it has affected support‑staff pay.
Dr. Gordon said the "journey resulted in some individual support staff members’ wages not being adjusted beginning July 1, 2025" because those employees received increases on Jan. 1, 2025 and the district has been monitoring a 6% cap/accelerated‑payment concern applied over a rolling 12‑month period. He told the committee that "January 1, 2026, created a new rolling 12‑month timeline for these employees" and that the board of education had discussed approving a portion of an adjustment to begin Jan. 1, 2026 and possibly approving another portion beginning July 1, 2026.
The committee confirmed that the board had previously discussed the phased approach described by Dr. Gordon. Committee members did not take a formal vote at the meeting on wage adjustments; Dr. Gordon framed the item as an update and a summary of prior board discussion rather than a request for immediate action.
Looking ahead, Dr. Gordon said staff will continue monitoring the statutory and district timelines and noted that the board will revisit specific adjustment amounts and effective dates before implementing changes.
