Giles School’s digital hallway pass touted as safety tool; board hears continuation request

Giles School administrators presented results of a new digital hallway pass system and asked the board to allow the program to continue next school year. Mr. Biedke introduced members of the Giles leadership team — Annamarie Piotrowski, Steve Hovorka and Anthony Coletta — and said the system has been "highly successful" at helping staff monitor movement and support building safety.
"Students feel 'safer,'" President Tribuzio said during the presentation. The leadership team showed data the board described as encouraging; based on those results Mr. Biedke requested continued use in 2026-27. Board members followed with operational questions: Mrs. Theodore asked whether extended water breaks stemmed from filter changes, and Mr. Biedke confirmed the district is replacing filters more frequently. Mrs. Guzik clarified there are not water-bottle filling stations in every hallway, so some students must go to another hallway to refill.
The presentation was procedural and advisory: no policy or procurement decision was made during the meeting. The board recorded the presentation and indicated staff would include the program in preparations for the coming school year.
