Superintendent Ryan Swan told the board that, as of Sept. 30, 2025, the State owed Mount Vernon City Schools $216,665.96. Swan did not announce a specific remedy at the meeting; the amount was presented as an outstanding receivable on the district's financial report.
Swan also reported that the Head Start program currently has 205 enrolled children and that the first month of the school year "went exceptionally well," with classrooms focusing on routines, centers and friendship skills. Planned Head Start activities for October include a pumpkin patch trip, safety drills, Red Ribbon Week and a fall party.
